Mojio Ikejiri's BL manga specializes in men who are super endearing and gloriously beefy. Their debut work—"Omawari-san, Mata Ashita", or "Omamata" for short—showcases the sweet love story between policeman Haruto and bodyguard Sakura as they help each other work through trauma and insecurities.
Ikejiri-sensei graciously agreed to an interview regarding "Omamata," drawing BL manga, and their various other interests! Plus, they wrote ALL of their replies in English! We're sure they'd LOVE to interact more with their English-speaking fans, so make sure to tag your thoughts on See You Again Tomorrow, Mr. Policeman (and the superb muscles therein) with #おままた("Omamata")!

All About "Omamata"
Released: Mar. 28, 2025
Please introduce yourself in any way you'd like/with any information you'd like to include!

Hi, dear readers! I'm Mojio Ikejiri, a BL mangaka who debuted in 2024 and a huge fan of BL for a super long time. I'm honored and so excited to talk about my manga and the story behind it!
I can't believe See You Again Tomorrow, Mr. Policeman is your debut work! Was there any particular inspiration behind this work?

Thank you so much! This series was started with the goal to deliver the sincere joy of pure muscle BL.
By taking inspiration from the shojo genre, I aimed to create a pure love drama. Plus, I decided to go with 2 decently strong guys (a bodyguard & a policeman) to show the beauty of muscles.
I hope you enjoy this pure, sexy duo as the story unfolds.

How did you come up with the idea for the characters of Haruto and Sakura?

The idea started from Sun and Moon ship dynamics. Their character designs were roughly set with this idea. Also, their names written in Chinese characters, '陽人(Haruto)' and '朔良(Sakura),' include the meaning of sun and moon respectively.
Then, their core personalities were created by thinking of how they help people who're facing trouble. Sakura is assertive and Haruto is accepting. In fact, they helped me a lot inside of my head while I was drawing the manga! :)
The Renta! staff really liked the お姫様抱っこ (princess carrying) scene at the beginning of See You Again Tomorrow, Mr. Policeman! What was your inspiration behind that scene?

So do I <3
Including the princess carrying scene was just my instinct. Working on manga was one of my dreams, so I decided to create a story packed with dream moments that I love. Powerful moments, cute moments, and dramatic moments, everything mixed together. I felt it would be something special for readers (myself included) to enjoy.

What was your favorite scene from See You Again Tomorrow, Mr. Policeman? What scene are you most excited for readers to get to?

The scene from Chapter 2 where Sakura and Haruto open up to each other on the pedestrian bridge. Haruto's open-hearted kindness cheers Sakura up.

Were Sakura and Haruto in any clubs when they were in high school? If so, which ones?

Sakura played basketball and his position was center. Haruto did judo. You see they were physically strong even then. ;)
If Sakura and Haruto ever got in a fight, what would it be about and how would they resolve it?

Sakura would want Haruto to rely on him more as a boyfriend. (As Haruto is older than Sakura and he has a younger brother, Haruto naturally tends to take care of Sakura.)
To resolve his frustration, Sakura would go out of his way as a boyfriend to make Haruto happy, such as with acts of service, gift giving, many kisses...
...I can't stop smiling while thinking about these 2 cuties... Thank you for the good question!
If Sakura and Haruto could go on a trip together anywhere in the world, where would they go and why? If YOU could go on a trip, where would you like to go?

They would go to the Grand Canyon because they like to watch the beautiful sunrise together. Haruto would be simply impressed by the breathtaking scenery, while Sakura would LOVE to see Haruto's cute reactions right next to him...
I'd like to go to Alaska to see the vast landscape someday...!
Which of your characters do you feel is most like you and why?

Umm... If I had to choose one, I'd say Haruto is most like me since I tend to overthink. And I have a judo black belt, too.

In your opinion, what's the most difficult part of the manga creation process?

Definitely the first stage of writing the plot. In my case, so many ideas come to me in random order. It takes a very long time to consider what I should write about. It is the hardest but the most exciting part at the same time. ;)

When did you first start creating manga, and what got you into it?

It was in the 5th grade. I published comic strips in the school's paper just like Ayumu Fujino from Look Back.
Which manga you've read would you say is the most integral or important to you, and why?

To be honest, it is extremely hard to choose the best because there are tons of incredible masterpieces! The most memorable manga for me is NARUTO. I bought my first manga G-pen to draw the attractive characters from NARUTO.
How did you get into BL, as a fan and as an artist? When did you decide you wanted to draw BL professionally?

As a fan, it was an accident. When I was a student, I found a hot BL fanart of my favorite comic series on the internet and I LOVED it so bad... you know.
As an artist, my grandmother had a big influence. She is a professional oil painter. During summer vacations in elementary school, I loved to watch her paint in her studio.
I decided to start my professional mangaka career when I got an email from an editor. She had read my doujinshi and she asked me, ''Won't you draw muscles in B.Pilz?''. I'm so grateful for that and I said, ''Yeah. Let's do it.''
When you have a story you want to draw, what's your creation process like? Do you outline all the details and story elements first, or do you develop the story as you go?

I create the full outline first. I develop the details later.
I use a whiteboard app to organize stories from the start to the end. For おままた (Omamata), I put about 400 sticky notes for the outline in the plotting process. During development, about 1000 notes were added in total to consider how the emotions of Sakura & Haruto changed. Honestly, I'm not sure how I was able to do that. I really appreciate all the support from my editor and friends.
Have you ever dealt with art block? How do you get past it when you're in a rut?

Luckily never, thanks to my unstoppable passion to enjoy art and my good artist friends.
Personally, I'd been away from drawing for over 5 years to study chemistry in college and for work. That experience made me realize how much I missed art. And I still keep that job while I work as a mangaka, so I simply had no time to get art block.
Was there anything new you discovered about yourself or the world of BL through publishing your first 商業BL (Commercial BL)?

Personally, I was surprised at how passionate I could be about creating.
The huge world of BL makes me feel so much smaller than before. Thanks to so many talented mangaka sensei, I will never get bored to explore and learn more about BL.
Do you have any plans or ideas for upcoming projects that you'd be comfortable sharing here?

I can't give away the details yet, but romantic hot muscles are promised 100%! I'm trying to work on another unique story.

When you look at your art now compared to when you first started, where do you think you've grown the most?

How to make characters' expressions stand out during important scenes.
I've learned about visual storytelling and super basic 3D on my own since I started my mangaka career. I like to try new approaches to create more memorable scenes.

What was your initial reaction when you found out See You Again Tomorrow, Mr. Policeman would be published in English?

It was absolutely incredible!!! I was beyond words because one of my dreams came true! I'm so grateful from the bottom of my heart to all the members working on the localization.

Thank you so, so much for the illustration you shared on X to celebrate your manga's release on English Renta!--we loved it! It seems that you are proficient in English, and we'd love to know if you grew up bilingual, or how you came to learn it!

Thank you so much, too. I'm happy to share my cute couple, Sakura & Haruto, via Renta!
My father speaks English and when I was a little child he went to the US on his business trip. That was super cool for me. I actually started communicating in English when I was a college student, though.
I found using English made it much easier for me to access cool information on art, music, and movies all over the world. I went to a language school in LA during summer vacation. I miss Santa Monica Beach...!

Fun Facts About Sensei
Released: May
30, 2025When you need a break, what do you do to relax and refresh while working on your manga?

Laughing hard on the phone with a friend or while watching a comedy show.
Sometimes, singing out loud while taking a shower. While I was working on おままた (Omamata), one of my favorite songs to sing was Break Free by Ariana Grande.

Aside from manga, what other hobbies do you have?

Visiting art exhibitions, watching movies, reading novels, and drinking dark roast coffee.
Do you have any pets? If not, would you like one?

I want to have a cat someday. My parents had a lovely beautiful cat in my hometown.
We've seen you post on X a few times about how your friends responded to you being a mangaka! Are you open with friends and family about liking BL?

I'm only open with my close friends. I haven't directly told my parents about my interest, but my mom knows and she also likes BL, hahaha.
When the おままた (Omamata) physical edition was published, I told some of my friends that I like BL for the first time. Honestly I was so scared of their reactions but they were super excited, celebrating and sending photos of store displays. I can't thank them enough.

"今年ももっとMuscles!" ("Here's to more muscles this year!") We've noticed both Haruto and Sakura are super buff, and you also talk about muscles a lot on your X account. What got you interested in muscles?

I've been influenced by a lot of amazing media showing beautiful & healthy muscles, like sports manga/anime, superhero movies, and fighting games.
The best thing about liking muscles is that I can find a new way to appreciate them whenever I study drawing. I'd like to share my excitement about muscles through my manga.

If you could learn any new skill that's not related to manga, what would you learn and why?

Graffiti and skateboarding. I like street culture because it seems cool, mysterious, and badass.
If you could have any job aside from being a mangaka, what would you choose, and why?

If I could, botanist or biologist in Madagascar. When I was a student, I liked research about the natural world.
What kinds of comments from fans of your work make you the happiest?

Everything is appreciated! One of the comments that made me happy said, ''I like all the muscles Mojio draws.'' I cried with happiness. It'd be great if I could find lots of new aspects of muscle BL to enjoy with my fans.
What would you say to an aspiring BL mangaka? What advice do you have for the creation or publishing process?

Be appreciative of your friends, family, and project team at all times.
Believe in yourself and go above and beyond. You can establish your creative style with what you're passionate about. Have fun!
Is there anything you'd like to convey to your readers that we haven't touched upon? Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for joining me on my おままた (Omamata) journey. I'm looking forward to seeing you again in my new series with hot muscles! Have a lovely BL life. <3
